6th Annual Tony Fontenot Memorial Rodeo
A veteran couple's saltwater fishing rodeo in Cocodrie, Louisiana was held on May 5, 2019
The 6th Annual Tony Fontenot Memorial Couple's Fishing Rodeo was held at Harborlight Marina Pavilion in Chauvin, LA from May 3rd through May 5th. Twenty three veterans and their spouses or girlfriend attended this year's event.
The weather put a damper on the fishing but not on the comradery. This event gives the spouses of our veterans an opportunity, not only to meet each other, but to bond. It is during this weekend that many of the spouses realize that they are not the only ones who face the difficulties of dealing with a veteran with physical and emotional issues.
Many thanks to the local captains, many of whom are full time fishing guides, who give of their time to take and treat these couples to day on the water. The food at this event is always wonderful. Several cooks donate their talents to feed the group over the weekend. Of course, no Wounded War Heroes event would amount to anything without the dozens of volunteers that come out to support our organization.
This event wouldn't happen if it weren't for the committee that picked up the ball and carried on after the untimely death of Tony Fontenot. Jimmy Benoit, Amy Boudreaux, Joey and Patricia Benoit and Alvin and Judy Luke spare no effort to make sure this event continues. They do a great job!! For that we will be forever grateful.
