4th Annual Cypremore Point Fishing Event
On August 3rd through the 5th 2018 Wounded War Heroes held the Cypremort Point Fishing Rodeo for 20 veterans. This fishing event is held each year in the coastal community, and is always fun!
The veterans arrived on Friday afternoon August 8th, 2018. They were escorted to where they would be staying so they could get settled in. Afterwards, they headed back to Mark Patout's camp to meet the many volunteers that made this event possible. Dinner was served throughout the evening with everything from fried shrimp to frog legs coming out of the fryer all night long. They were introduced to their captain. Each veteran was given a fishing bag full of gifts, including a rodeo shirt and a WWH Yeti cup.
Early Saturday morning everyone left to go fishing. Some boats had to run in order to avoid the rain, while others lucked out and went in the right direction from the start. The weather didn't seem to make much of a difference to anyone. Everyone had a great time connecting with fellow veterans and making new friends. Once everyone had a chance to cleanup, we gathered at Mark Patout's camp for more delicious food from the makeshift kitchen of Troy and Austin Green. The fishing awards were given out to the winners. Speedy's Captain Award was given to the outstanding captain of the rodeo in memory of Emmanuel "Speedy" St Upery who served as a captain for this event from it's beginning. The veteran's names were pulled one by one so they could choose a door prize.
Like many of the activities that the veterans of Wounded War Heroes have the opportunity to attend, the Cypremort Point Fishing Event wouldn't happen if it weren't for the hard work and generosity of many sponsors and volunteers. Dave Defelice brings together one of the best event teams when it comes to planning an event for our veterans. Everyone involved is amazing!! The food prepared by Troy Green and his son Austin is outstanding! The captains that volunteer their boats to take our veterans fishing are some of the kindest people on the planet. The hard work that many volunteers do behind the scenes, gathering door prizes and helping to organize everything, long before the first hero arrives, is only topped by their ability to make our veterans feel welcomed throughout the weekend. Of course, without the generosity of several camp owners there would be no place for our heroes to lay their heads. Each night Mark Patout is generous enough to lend his camp, his home away from home, as the gathering place for the weekend.
Each year this event gets bigger and better. It's an event this board member always looks forward to. As many of the veterans that have attended this event in the past would tell you, the Cypremort Point Team has become part of the Wounded War Heroes family and WE LOVE them!
